Communism
The Great Indian Legislature encompasses almost all the features of utopia. Since the representation is from every strata of the society theoretically the system should produce outstanding results. But then not everything thought is redeemed. As expected some roadblocks are always there to interfere in the smooth functioning. At times they creep in unknowingly as system’s unnecessary byproduct but quite a number of times these hurdles are well planned and organized to meet various ideological goals. It has now been established beyond doubt that communism belongs to the latter category.
Communism forms a part of Indian polity form the independence era. With India virtually taking Russian side in 60s its impact could well be seen in the India. As time progressed it became apparently clear that high growth rate can never be achieved with the principle of communism which is principally flawed. The theory simply stifles talent, desire to work and promotes withdrawal characteristics in the people.
Communism tries to contain the very human nature of excelling and in turn promotes the laidback attitude. The deserving ones don’t get the fair share while the non deserving fellows get at par.
In Indian scenario communism is the last thing required. It supposedly represents only a small percentage of labour force which is organized. The only role it has performed is calling out bandhs, lockouts and strikes causing immense losses to the nation. It opposes anything remotely related to reforms and in no way elucidate a method to strive for perfection. This is quite evident from the likes of communist ruled states.
The elections are largely rigged in communist areas thus eliminating other parties, aspirations which are the very essence of democracy. But there is a ray of hope as communists are learning from world results of which could be seen as well.

Speak Global Act Local
LPG seems to be the panacea for the new world disorder. Please don’t quit for I am certainly not discussing the housewives’ nightmare over soaring gas prices but the matters at hand are the new principles of doing business in the era of liberalization, privatization and globalization. It is important to note that these principles apply essentially to the developing and underdeveloped countries; the developed ones have already perfected privatization of public policy as a fine art.
LPG has certainly dazzled economy and society but as the smoke clears one could easily say that it’s not all about oh so cute philosophy of equal or fair treatment instead the whole show is about who negotiates better. The entire stuff could be roughly summarized into five general principles and they turn out to be fairly crude.
The first principle could be called as definition alteration. The brave new world is one where if one doesn’t cave into the illegal demands of big firang industry he is condemned for not creating the “Right Investment Climate”. MOU’s are heavily biased toward private companies and a hint of pro-public interest modification is termed as “Red Tapism”. Bailing out badly managed major industrial corporations using technical-legal jargon and unscrupulous means is called “Debt Restructuring” and sale of public equity in profitable enterprises to dress up lousy budget proposals is termed as “corporatisation”.

The second principle that propels this fools’ paradise is Outright Hypocrisy. It is OK for Uncle Sam to cut oil production and raise prices world over but it’s not OK for so called hardliners to subsidize artificially inflated prices to ease the burden on a vastly impoverished, helpless and unassuming population. It’s OK for big daddy to grant patents on Basmati and Turmeric but it’s not OK for lesser mortals to demand waiving of similarly assured royalty payments on vital life saving drugs. It’s OK for them to discard Kyoto and act savagely at Abu Ghraib but it’s not OK for us to develop our industries per se.
The third principle is Stealth Bombing. By offering facilities for free initially and once consumer gets hooked they are milked dry. International funding agencies do this regularly via low interest “Development” loans and the biggest GM seeds companies are doing this now at grassroots levels. They get in uninvited, unnoticed and before one realizes, the indigenous varieties get wiped off and it is where things start getting dictated. Their deep pockets and shallow conscience make it even deadlier.
The penultimate principle could be called as Downright Terrorism. It is to keep a nation on gun, drag it to UNSC, threat its allies and seduce the neutrals. This is followed by imposition of economic sanctions, investment blackout and harassment in the international arena. Obviously UN, WTO and other world organizations may go to hell if they wish so.
The final principle or say tactical blow is Regime Change. If the nation has enough gut to sustain pressure and does not succumb to threats it is attacked, annihilated and a puppet regime installed citing various unbelievable reasons. James Bond has the license to kill and so he will.
The principles are simple enough, at times orated with the misnomers like human rights and democracy. History is replete with the use of saam, daam, dand, bhed; they are very much used now only the language is more technical and print is finer. The potion for success is also simple enough; become the stronger side and negotiate better.

Hindu tolerance
Hindus are by and large tolerant people. This has been established over centuries and accepted by all. Though this fact has been challenged over ages but the resilience of Hinduism has allowed it to come over all the hardships. Recently there has been uproar regarding Hindu militancy in India. The pseudo secularists have not left any stone unturned in bashing so claimed growing Hindu intolerance. Well it is clear that these propagandas are part of vote bank politics I feel deeply offended by these happenings. There is a limit to everything. Are we supposed to remain mute spectators when are deities are defamed, idols and images tarnished and labeled on beer bottles and toilet seats. Much hullabaloo has been over Hindus response over Hussein’s painting. Hindu goddess was painted nude, projected as work of art and citing techno legal jargon we were told difference between erotica and art. This of course is not the first instance of sacrilege but as always Hindus were expected to remain shut rather appreciate. A pinch of vocal protest has left secularist fuming with vengeance. None of us can forget the Muslim response over Danish cartoons and the extremity to which it went. World must respect Hindus for their innate tolerance. There are however deeper issues and far more complex factors to be considered which I m not capable enough to handle.

Reservation: mediocrity assured
Representative democracy comes with its own set of disadvantages and one of them being letting loose of the selected ones. And the most recent outcome of this derived con is the proposed dastardly reservation policy. It aims to set aside half of the seats in central govt. colleges for what is perceived as backward classes. The profound implications of this short sighted step would hamper India's growth in more than one manner.
First of all this move is completely uncalled for. If 60 years after independence we still need to reserve something for seemingly socially backward classes then there has been definitely a big flaw in Govt. policies till date. The govt. instead of making honest investment in human capital at elementary stage is taking the shorter and dangerous route. There has been enough time for the Govt. to draft its policies and implement the plans to suit the Indian social fabric. However the lopsided and futile efforts over the years have resulted in disproportionate growth. One of the positive outcomes was the creation of islands of excellence. But reservation policy now being introduced is all set to mitigate this glimmering hope.
The main beneficiaries of reservation are not the ones who need it but the ones who already have it. The ones selected by reservation are the wards of economically better off people who get the facilities at par with general candidates. The dividends have plateaued over years. So its continuance serves no purpose let alone reintroduction.
The impact could be felt in both short as well as long term. Immediate result would be the sharp decline in the quality of intake of the institutions. Deserving students who are the backbone of any educational institute would be left to look for other pastures as India doesn't have to offer much to its elite minds. The scenario of classes could well be imagined. Presently some 20% are non-participants but with this step this almost half of the class strength would be rendered, if I put it bluntly; useless. The plight of profs. cannot be ignored as most of them leave fat paying jobs to cherish teaching.
India's growth is taking big strides despite non performance of primary sector thanks to service sector that has thrived so well and contributed to excellent growth rate in spite of govt. being in place. It has been predicted by various agencies that this sector may face shortage of deserving applicants as there are not many colleges producing quality lot. Now with our prestigious institutions churning out mediocres or even worse one doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to infer the fiasco. The credibility and reputation of these institutes build so painstakingly over the years by their alumni cannot be allowed to squander away. This is one of the times when India need best of the people to meet high demanding service and manufacturing sector and govt. is hell bent to wither away opportunities. It can be concluded beyond doubt that this step would pull India at least 15 years behind which India can certainly not afford.
Various spineless theories have been proposed by govt. and supporters that defies any logic. In civilised society any sane person can easily point out the fallbacks. However to garner electoral gains Govt. is taking such a terribly wrong step. Our leadership doesn’t have enough guts to take corrective actions which are quite evident from unanimous support extended to it by legislature.
There are definitely ways out of this impasse. The one proposed by the Govt. is certainly not plausible. Increasing seats would magnify the strain of already over burdened resources of these institutes. Though reservation can never be justified yet alternatives could be proposed. The most obvious and reasonable solution is to implement policies of social emancipation at grassroots level by addressing problems related to vicious cycle of poverty, unemployment and illiteracy. The Sarva Shikhsa Abhiyaan(SSA) is one good step to strengthen primary education. Then there were suggestions from political scientists to calculate backwardness index consisting of various parameters such as social class, economic condition, upbringing etc. however these steps should be taken only if there is an upper time limit on continuance of policies which if we take history in account is not possible.
There might be a flip side but I strongly believe that does not contribute much to the society.

Thoughts
I have always wondered about the factors that initiate,modify/manipulate our thought process.Though it has been established beyond doubt that the way in which one thinks is inherent and prenatal. However i believe that this could be altered to a great extent by media.Incase of lesser mortals like me heavy doses of The Hindu has only affirmed this belief. After 4 years of subscription(not regular reading) i find my thinking getting more conventional, extermely straightforward and a bit conservative.with tonnes of information on every issue it makes one more knowledge driven, quality varying on his ability to hold them.I hope it is for good.

Headings
I am seriously worried that my mental faculties are not same as they used to be some time back. Those were the days when things came to me in a flash but now i had big trouble getting the name of the blog as well as its heading. However it is only after 2 full days of the creation of this blog that i have been told about the prexistence of a masterpiece by Einstein bearing similar name.
